Props hunting #1

Hellooooo....

Every week from april to september every sunday I try to find some time to visit one of nearest car boot sale's. Not all the time I can do it, but often (like twice a week) I go there.

This week was nothing really spectacular. Weather was so-so, not many people. At the end of one alley, old lady had this silverware, lots of it. Most had rust, some were hardly damaged but this lovely set - photo below - jump to my eyes quickly.
I nicely ask about price, but was too high, I almost start walking when the lady shout, make me an offer, and so I got it :)

Few days later I wanted to use my new prop, so I've done some random pics of my regular orange cake which I bake often for my tea.

Props hunting

I love props. My collection of props is growing very, very fast.

I like both vintage finds and modern one's, but most of time I buy the first one's because they are a lot cheaper and beacuse I always can buy new designed tableware straight from shop/auction, it's not so exciting.

When I buy vintage props I like to think that this maybe something rare or unique, and I boughted this so cheap. Then I'm satisfied. I also like props lightly damaged/distressed so they look authentic, old fashioned, often used.

In my prop room, props are dividen into caterogies, there is rack with just wooden props, then I have rack/shelves just with silverware/metalware, there are shelves just with glasses and cups, shelves just with baskets, closet with linens, tea towels and frabrics. I love especially last two. I always checking ebay for interesting tea towels. I also often go to fabrics shop, I locate big wooden case with trimmings/scraps/fragments of nice fabrics, which are usually very cheap.

The best place to find cheap, old and vintage props are car boot sale's, as well as charity shops and ocasionaly ebay (or similar auction websites). Car boots are in UK from april/may up to october so in these months my collection is growing fast. In winter time I have more time to clean them, sort, label/register in my book.

After shopping I often like to use new props in my pictures, so I know how they look, what kind image/style I can obtain.

Prop hunting will be a series of articles about my prop finds. So visit my blog from time to time for new ideas.
